Lake Lanier Striper Fishing

Posted by scottc on August 19th, 2010

Striper fishing has been very consistent. We’re not seeing huge numbers of fish, but we have been catching a few quality fish every trip. The Stripers are down 30-50 feet in 90-120 feet of water relating to tree lines.  All mid-lake to south-end creeks are holding fish. We rely heavily on our Lowrance electronics this time of year for marking deep schools of bait, thermoclines, and tree lines. The fish are finally start to school up in tight, active groups. Down lines have been our biggest producer this week. Trolling the edge of the river channels with lead core fished 7 to 9 colors will also catch fish. Stripers  have been sporadically feeding through out the day. Fishing has been good and should only get better into September. See you on the water.

Fishing on Lanier is good right now for Stripers. The fish are finally starting to school up in large groups around standing timber in the 75-100 foot range. There are a couple of methods producing fish right now. Herring down lined 20-40 feet around the thermocline is working well and  trolling lead-core single buck tails will also put a couple of fish in the boat. Mid-lake to South-end are the best places to find schooling Stripers.  We have a few openings in August, don’t miss out on the summer down line bite. It is some of the best fishing of the year on the Lake. See you on the water.
